Ask HN: How do I start a VPS company?
I'm a programmer with pretty good sysadmin skills and thorough knowledge of qemu/kvm (even made custom modifications to its code for various purposes), so I thought starting a VPS company might be a good fit for me.
Asking for advice from just about anyone on the following points:
1) Any recommendations for data centers to start in? My initial research suggests HE Fremont is the cheapest, but I care about uptime as well.
2) If I rent a full cabinet, will have to learn BGP? Also, if I get my own IP addresses for flexibility, will I have to learn BGP? Is there a simple way to learn BGP?
2) What's the most cost-effective hardware on a per-megabyte-of-RAM basis?
