This is most jobs not the exception. This is how companies are deliberately managed, in order to extract the most value from employees. The imperitive to extract value from the individual is inherently a form of abuse, so it is quite natural that properties we find in abusive dynamics outside the workplace are reflected within the workplace. Capatilism is evil, this is just one of the manifestations of it's purient corruption.
