Something that occurs to me: there must have been zero adults around with any kind of common sense, or they were almost criminally negligent in not speaking out about his treatment at the time.
I mean, jesus. A suspicious device? If it were a bomb for example, it would need to have some part of it that could explode.... and there was no explosive material. So it's just a hand made electronic device. If you inspect it for more than 60 seconds, you can see there's no risk involved with it. So the decision to arrest him has nothing to do with safety at all.
The real reason he was arrested is he's a kid who is smarter than all the adults and he's doing something they can't understand.
