I think it's difficult to assess the opinions of subsets of either major party. There are a large number of Republicans who believe in moderate regulation of industry, reducing the size of the defense industry, vaccinating our kids, and the possibility of anthro climate change. Depending on your news sources and breadth of political exposure, you'd never know this.
I vote Republican, but love net neutrality. This issue will pretty much guarantee I stay home in 2016.
Don't stay home, vote 3rd party. That allows you to vote against someone you don't like, while not also voting for someone else that you like even less. The effect is mostly personal and inconsequential, but you're still participating.
Always try to find a way to vote, it keeps democracy healthy (well, less sick).
