Poll: How many google searches do you do each day?

After a thread somewhere else on HN this question seems worth asking. The reason why is that I think that google has gone from 'a good improvement' to 'very important' to 'a must'. (of course there's bing now as well, so let's include that).

My pattern is bimodal. On an average day, I probably make no more than 10 Google searches. On a day when I am actively building something new or doing background research before I start a new project, I might easily make over 100 searches.

I put 31-50, but it's hard to keep track. There are very few times a day I say "I'll google this", but it's quite common for me to just enter a search term or incomplete url into the bar and Google ends up doing the work for me anyway.

My favorite search engine right now is duckduckgo.com. For some reason I like trying out the new stuff.

That's a funky name, I'll have to try it just for that :)

For some weird reason it reminds me of engine oil, but no idea why that link is there.

That's my staple test for any search engine because I know the top 40 results for google almost by heart.

In the past 34 months (the extent of my Google web history data), I've performed 35401 searches with Google (about 34 per day).

Of course, it's easy to switch search engines. The reasons for me that Google has become "very important" or "a must" are the non-search services, like Gmail and Google Calendar. Sure, I could get my data using something like IMAP and go elsewhere, but that would be a huge pain.

That's pretty exact, so I take you have that automated or you lifted that number from google somehow. Could you please tell how you found that number ?

Ah, it's tied in with the toolbar and the pagerank function. I see. Learn a new thing every day :)

So that's not going to retroactively give me that number, that's a pity.

I use a lot of Google Chrome URL box search. I find it very convenient and now hate Firefox and Safari for using a different search box.

I still use Firefox for development though. But Chrome on almost everything else.

With firefox you can set "search keywords" so I have Google set as "g". Now when I type g <search term> into my address box it will search Google. I have others for amazon, Wikipedia and the rest. Not quite the same thing as crome's but just as useful.

I do the same thing on FF. But in my case , its more of a habit that got carried over from being a seasoned Opera User from ye olde days of Dial-up internet

I consistently average about 150... and it goes up when i'm coding...
