Ask HN: What Reddit “Subreddits” Are Good to Make the Site Informative/Useful?

I've never bothered much with Reddit except to browse a few gifs or funny videos here and there. But there are some pretty useful "subreddits" and it seems like it could turn into a relatively useful site if one unsubscribed from all the "default" subreddits and subscribed to only a curated list.

For example, datasets, dataisbeautiful, programming are all pretty interesting and useful.

Does anyone have a list of suggestions of subreddits to make Reddit more akin to HackerNews?
