I have some fond ass memories of Pokemon on the Game Boy but sadly never kept playing after Gold and Silver. But man what a glorious time it was to grow up in the 90s, walk around with your gameboy and link cable, spot another goober kid with his gameboy (and, presumably [read: 100% absolutely] a pokemon game) and trade some monsters. That brief interaction with another kid trading and bonding over a game is what makes me keep one eye on Nintendo's prospect for a pokemon phone game today.

The thing about Pokémon these days (on the 3DS) is that the entire experience can be done online. That makes it far more efficient for kids and adults to just sit at home and optimize the experience instead of being social in-person. Some folks still meet up to play, but the majority have no interest in actually meeting people to play/trade when they can just go online instead.
I assumed as much, I knew 3DS was online-ready but quite frankly there are somethings online gaming cannot replicate. Call me old fashioned.... (wanna come over and play some co-op? Bring your controller.)
I tried all of them untill Black & White (Gen V, I guess), but never got into it as with Gen 1 and 2.
I guess it was a lack of wonder and discovery. I usually went back to the same pokemon I used in previous games.
I recovered some of that feeling with Black & White, because it didn't have any of the previous pokemon available to be captured. But, being a older and smarter guy I started googling stuff and min-maxing pretty early, which ended up ruining the game for me.
But I still search for that game that can make me feel like I did with Pokemon.
(And, just for the record, I consider Gold & Silver to be the best videogame sequel ever. They got everything right!)
I keep meaning to get started on my Game Boy Printer emulator so I can download pictures from a GB Camera. My plan was to just hack an eBay link cable in half and solder them to the board, but this is much cleaner and way classier.
