Ask HN: How to get recognition in a large company?

Long time lurker. Created the account to ask this question. My question is how do I get recognized at a very large company?

I am skilled, hard and smart working and my manager knows about it. I help my team mates, I go out of my way to work on different things. However, no one above the manager gets to know about it. I also feel like some peers do not like that and actually try to pull me down. For ex: I am a developer. But If I do something with Linux and show it to team, the sysadmins start talking behind my back. Apparently, I should mind my own business.

Its the same with senior tech people. If I discuss something in detail about a problem, the architects try to sweep it under and later just decide on something without consulting anyone.

All this means that the only way for me to move up is do the time and get the promotions as they come. I don't like that.

For ex: someone who doesn't do anything and I really mean anything, they also get the same promotion and money as me. Even though my manager knows this and has talked to me about it. No manager pet- just that I end up "training" a few of my colleagues every week.

So what do I do. I have discussed the with my manager. But he doesn't know technologies. Also I want to get bigger roles where I can have a say in development, systems, infrastructure etc as I know all of that. But my manager doesn't have the means to help me there. He suggested I write blogs. But is that the only way? Writing blogs and hoping someone looks at it?

I must add that this is one of those very big companies and I am not in USA.
