Ask HN: Is “Your Github profile is your resume” encouraging profile padding?
I think I've noticed an uptick in what I consider to be "padded" github profiles (in the sense of resume padding). That is, the activity graph is very green, and the projects contributed to are important, but when you look more closely, you see the contributions are largely inconsequential. For example, pull requests to reword a comment or to change formatting (which often go unaccepted), or in many cases, no pull requests at all; a project is just forked for no apparent reason.
Am I being paranoid, or are more and more people trying to game the Github profile system, because of its increasing use in hiring?
