object-fit doesn't solve the problem, it is similar to using background-image and set the background-size:cover. Still when the container's width/height ratio doesn't match the image's, there is risk that image could be inappropriately cut off
I am working on a modernized feedly alternative and thought about this. But my real Problem for this feature would be to automate face/feature detection. Thumbor claims to be able to do this. But I am not convinced that this would work good enough at scale and also be fast enough. And even Flipboard has cut of faces, so maybe nobody cares?
Wow, Derp.js is so fucking exciting, I almost wet myself.
I post this shit, grinding out JS for three years of my miserable life because I actually fucking care about technology: https://linuxontheweb.appspot.com/
And nobody gives a shit. Thank you very much, fucking assholes.
My idea is to "self source" it. You will be able to edit the source code from within it, using a powerful editor like vim (emacs might be coming soon). The version that you are editing will be embedded inside of an iframe that is inside of an application window, and people will be able to easily share their hacked versions using the distributed filesystem that I am actively developing. In other words, I have absolutely no interest in putting up yet another lame github project that absolutely nobody cares about. For me, it's about going all the way or no way at all.
I don't think anyone has really wet themselves over this library. Your app is cool, but it doesn't solve anything for me. This library aims to solve a problem some developers have easily.
Your project is definitely more niche. To understand the significance your work, you definitely have to have a pretty high level of knowledge.
I would speculate things like repsonify.js are more popular because they have an immediate use and impact for web development, as it solves a common problem people face when designing image-heavy sites.
Your project on the other hand has no immediate impact, though it is neat. It's something I may play around with for five minutes and then promptly forgot about.
Plus, the way you conduct yourself certainly doesn't help.
> This represents the next generation of computer-related technology because it completely obliterates the historical division between the radically distinct paradigms that one may call native form (whatever our operating systems automatically do) and online content (whatever we manually look for in our web browsers).
I don't understand what this actually means. What problem are you solving? I'd like to know more.

I'm not exactly sure why you want your comments to sound like you're a complete lunatic.
