Ask HN: Should I accept an offer as a remote developer with Stock options

Should I accept the offer to work remotely for a startup in the U.S that offers stock option? The thing is I have never been to the U.S before definitely don't have a Visa. Does it make sense to accept the offer without fear that I things may turn out to be unpleasant and I may be cheated if the company grows bigger and the stocks value becomes substantial.
