I think he's saying that when persons of color commit suicide, it is not taken seriously. In fact it is dismissed with derogatory racist slurs.
You are the problem. You are unable to use context with words. Your emotional reaction is without any thought, and leads to the worse of abuses known to our history. Take a long look in the mirror and commit to thinking before you let your incorrect emotional association to words be used out of context.

The comments about the cameras are the most striking.

If you are giving the monopoly on killing and beating people within the confines of the law of course your actions should be very transparent. Without that transparency you end up with a police system that is not accountable to the people.

We are not going to have a thread to gawk at a human being saying he might kill himself.

All: I'm going to close this discussion now. Please do not repost it and please flag it if someone else does.

Ian, should you see this: I'm sorry that this happened to you. Please get well and come and tell us your story then. And please email hn@ycombinator.com if there is something we can do.

Sounds like he may have suffered some kind of head injury in the police attack, I'm betting the suicidal impulse is related to a head injury, the change of tone of his tweets is striking, going from upbeat docker related stuff to a sudden, frantic situation with the police describing two beatings, then his suicide announcement, I hope he is able to get medical help.
Hopefully it was just a kneejerk reaction at first: 1h ago: "i'm committing suicide tonight", some time after "I'm not committing suicide today. I'll write this all up first", 9m ago: "The rest of my life will be devoted to fighting against police abuse".

Hopefully he'll make more impact with an actual active fight.
