iOS Pull to Refresh Broken OnEverything?

Testing out my lovely app today (SkipCast, a Podcast player) and noticed for the first time that if I activate pull to refresh on a root view controller and then change views, going back to the root view shows the activity indicator is now stuck in place.

Thinking this must be on my end, I fired up Apple Mail and went into an inbox. I activate pull to refresh and left, and sure enough when I came back the activity indicator is indeed frozen in place.

Any ideas on how to avoid this besides canceling the pull to refresh operation when we leave the view?
