Google's AI Masters the Game of Go a Decade Earlier Than Expected

I don't know whether to feel happy or sad --- the most complex chess-type game man has ever invented is close to being conquered. As a Go player who has played this game for 20 years or so and represented my country in national and international competitions, I feel an impending sense of doom as if all meaning has been sucked out of my life. A couple years ago, the strongest bots were about my strength, roughly around 6 dan amateur and I could win perhaps 50% to 60% of my games against it if I played seriously in tournaments. Now there has been a quantum leap , a Go bot that defeated a professional player 5 games to nil. We shall see how the machine fares against Lee Sedol, but Lee Sedol is no longer in his competitive prime too ... Perhaps they should pit the computer against the top player in the world when he is at his peak (late teens to mid twenties)
