Ask HN: Any new projects aiming to launch with passwordless authentication?

Problems with passwords are well known: difficult to remember; users often duplicate them; often weak; stolen files of password hashes can be brute forced; etc.

Recent HN discussions suggest that the days of the password are numbered, and that we may see a shift towards passwordless authentication.

Is anyone developing an application or service that requires user authentication but will not use passwords from launch? What methods of authentication are you exploring?

Most options I've seen appear to rely on an app installed on the user's smartphone, or codes delivered via SMS or email. [0], [1]

This seems like a subject that's begging for an open framework or design. Does such a thing exist? I notice that at least one person here seems to have suggested an approach [2]
