Could we get some context?
> FUCK THE WORLD

Um, can someone closer to this maintainer make sure he is OK? Can't take things like this lightly.

edit: I cannot reach out because I don't know him, but someone who DOES should.

Seems like a normal expression of frustration, no need to get melodramatic.
This seems like a kind of unfortunate place to start a Hacker News conversation and likely to exacerbate the issue.

Seems like Doug had a bad day and overreacted - we've all been there. It's the weekend, hopefully in time cooler heads will prevail and all will be fine.

I flagged the link for that reason.

What's there to discuss? People fighting? What is the context? And .. why would we want to watch?

This feels inappropriate. We're sending a huge amount of traffic to a ~random~ ticket in which someone feels betrayed.

What, what exactly, would HN like to discuss here? I mean - what is the topic? What IS there to discuss? Do we want to add helpful advice from our armchairs? Is this a way to bait out more details (from people that might know more, might be on HN)?

Seriously, how's this more relevant than a post about Prince William getting wasted?

A lot of people are invested in express and run production services based on it. While I agree it is unfortunate for this discussion to reach Hacker News it is also definitely important and interesting information to those involved.

I'm sure that I would want to know.

This happened an hour ago. There is absolutely no indication that it will be permanent - it takes a single click of a button to reopen a pull request.

The overwhelming chances are that you wouldn't have ever noticed. And publicity like this is just going to make it harder to move on.

I just read a long list of github issue comments about express out of curiosity about the backstory here. It does sound like a bad day for Doug, but you can also see the frustration building over a three month period; sometimes enough is enough - straws can break backs.

Managing open governance is tricky, even with good participant trust. And it seems like Doug can't work on this stuff during work hours, i.e. nobody is paying him for it. So those are additional stressors. Hopefully he can find a happy place again, but I would be surprised if it involved express unless he was hired by someone to work on it.

Burnout struggle is real.

People could be more empathetic in general, especially in open source where others use their free time to collaborate.

I genuinely hope that Doug Wilson doesn't quit collaborating since he has already done a really good job.

I'm not sure I would expect much different than this after seeing IBM getting more and more involved in every aspect (in the form of jasnell)
friday night drunken drama?
Ever since TJ handed Express, there's been a lack of leadership. IBM owns Express but hasn't really been fixing bugs, so Doug took over a lot of the development work in the interim.

All the best to Doug and I hope he's doing okay.

What on earth is this about? zero backstory, one out of context comment.
