Ask HN: How does Google Play source its content?

Hi All, I'm just curious if anyone can point me in the right direction (links or otherwise) for my research. I'd like to understand the process for digital content making its way to the Play store. Is Google negotiating directly with Publishers, or studios directly? What accounts for the differences in content for iTunes or the Amazon stores?
