Ask HN: Physicists working in tech, what was your career path?

There have been a few threads on HN asking how to transition from a career in physics to tech. I think hearing stories from people that successfully made that transition would be more helpful. For those now working in tech, how did you transition from physics? Did you make the leap after your BSc, MS, or PhD? How does the day-to-day compare between the tech industry and academia?
