Ask HN: Will we hate chat bots like we hate automated phone systems?

I can't help but think in a few months to a year; we'll come to hate chat bots like most of us hate automated phone systems. Most people know, if you want to get somewhere in a phone system tree, just press 0 for a customer service rep. It's often easier to speak to a live human then to deal with pre-programmed prompts.

Isn't this why we have apps? Apps were to make it easier to buy stuff or get help. Purpose built, screen size optimized, places to go to get something done. I feel opening a chat app, finding the right bot to chat with, figuring out the right command, typing it, etc... is gonna take much longer then just going into an app, finding what I wanted anyways and clicking order.

In the Amazon app (for example) After searching for what I want - it's 1 touch on the product and 1 touch to Buy Now. How can a chat bot possibly be quicker then that? This of course is just 1 example, but is the most likely use IMO (and 1 demoed on the stage of F8 with 1800 flowers)
