Ask HN: best way to write a compiler?

Hi, startupgrrl here, I need to write a compiler for my social media startup but the only experience I have writing compilers is a recursive descent compiler in haskell. I'd like to graduate to real tools to develop this compiler. I'm leaning toward Django, but I've heard good things about Hadoop, what do you suggest? Also, I've been experimenting with replacing the cold cathode in my LCD screen with higher power models (think flood lights, Paul Graham uses this all the time in his hyperbaric LISP hacking chamber) to help me stay awake during my late, lonely night hacking sessions, do you have any tips for burning the midnight oil?
