Was this book intended to be distributed for free electronically? I am not sure this is an appropriate thing to have on the front page.

I am wondering that exact same thing. I did see that it is available through Google Books as well so not sure myself at the moment.

I flicked through the book and to be honest, I was disappointed by it. Perhaps it's nice as a curiosity for beginners, but I really doubt whether forensic analysts or penetration testers would really benefit from it. I'd assume that they're already pretty decent programmers in some language, so I don't really see the point of the book. Showing the libraries? I doubt that python-nmap with its less than 1K LOC (mostly just parsing XML) is worth mentioning, same goes for the terrible and mostly unmaintained mechanize. Scrapy went unmentioned though... also, the social engineering section seems lacking. No mention of Social Engineering Toolkit?
