People as plankton

People who think artificial intelligence is going to be wholly unlike regular intelligence are not spending enough time in nature. The spectrum of intelligences represented—particularly in healthy old growth ecologies—are not a "niche" set of information primitives. It is an awesome spectrum plumbing a broad set of wavelengths. AIs will become planetary, yes, but they will be one wavelength amongst many. The whale is just as powerless to the bacteria as the bacteria are to them. In practice, whales and bacteria mostly operate in separate spheres. I think it's rare for species to harbor hatred for other species. Unless we want to eat you, most animals will find you quaint, or, more likely ignore you entirely. Species are generally just into their weird fetishistic practices, building nests or whatever. I have a feeling the AIs will be mostly into their weird AI stuff and will more or less treat the earth as a museum. A curious origin for a pure information species.
