Ask HN: Runtastic has multiple apps for the same thing. Why?

Hey. Runtastic and MapMy{X} has many apps under them which does the same thing : track steps / run. Doesn't it make more sense to have only one app for all and have more number of downloads in one instead of having multiple apps?
