If you want my opinion, Trump is telling people what they want to hear, playing on their fears, and claiming he can solve those fears for them by cracking down on scapegoat groups like immigrants, etc.

It is scary that Hitler basically did the same things and wanted to Make Germany Great Again.

You have to remember that Trump was in a Reality TV series and was in the WWE and attacked Vince McMahon and shaved his head bald. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMKFIHRpe7I

So Trump has some acting abilities and can persuade people with them. We haven't had a President like that since Reagan.

Telling people what they want to hear and playing on their fears is what every politician does.

Neither of those things is a demonstration of (good) acting abilities.

This is a trend in history. Whenever there's economist recession, a protectionist/nationalist/authoritarian element emerges. It's happened in many European countries, where a far-right candidate has suddenly been almost elected or actually elected. Canada even had this problem.

What was unique about Hitler was not how he came to power or that he came to power. Most politicians follow a similar path. The unique thing about Hitler (that Trump doesn't share) was the degree of his hate-mongering, control over the country, nationalism, and militarism. He was far, far beyond any viable candidate in a developed republic today.

It's also important to note that the "recipe" that created Hitler was much different than it is for Trump, and it's not just about the candidate himself.

Post-WWI Germany was a non-empire surrounded by empires. They were "oppressed" by the reparations they paid for WWI. They had high net exports, which creates the perfect conditions for a war machine (and which is why it's illegal for Germany to be too much of a net exporter today). And, among many more details, they wouldn't have been raised with values of multiculturalism, tolerance of immigrants, and anti-racism that Americans are raised with.

Hillary needs a shave too.
Last October Scott Adams did a segment with ReasonTV on why he believes 2017 will be a Trump presidency. A lot of the content is already covered in the submitted article, but in the video Scott walks through Trump's linguistic techniques alongside with video examples of how he uses them.
