I'm familiar with a few examples in this area, all of which have to do with Craigslist.

What other profitable companies have had to shut down after months of work because they were deemed more parasitic than symbiotic by a third-party company they were scraping or interfacing with?

I'm looking for horror stories of big companies making money that got murdered by legal threats in order to convince a friend of mine that he has a bad idea and is investing in a very black-swan-prone business.
