When reading this I thought about how this relates to my own work. Agile software development seemed to come up in my thoughts. Developers (workers) participate in an observational study, with teamwork, metrics, feedback all built in. Perhaps we improve our productivity because of the Hawthorne effect? I think that in a limited way, probably yes.
