Ask HN: How do you find reliable (non-affiliate) reviews when shopping online?
If you Google any of the following questions:
- What is the best robotic vacuum cleaner? - What is the best LCD screen? - What is the best ...?
On the first page of results you will see several ads and the rest will probably be affiliate marketing sites. The problem is that these websites usually don't even know what they are talking about and are mostly copy-paste[1] of product descriptions to their web page.
Few years ago these searches would probably yield results to different forums where people discussed different products. Today I have to do whole research to decide something that I am sure people researched/discussed before. Isn't "What is the best X" one of the most common and important questions when buying stuff?
How do you find reliable reviews/comparisons these days? Or do you have any other way of filtering out bad/finding best products?
[1] Not really copy-paste, but it's like somebody read the description and then wrote a shorter version of it. Redundant information.
