Ask HN: Do you need to know CS stuff to get a front-end developer job at Google

I've seen some people from Udacity Degree programs who claim to work at Google, at least that what they say on their website. I know that the Udacity front-end developer courses do not teach CS stuff like data structures and algorithms only web development stuff, and on the other hand some people say to get a front-end position at Google, you have to know deep CS stuff. I have 5+ years doing front-end development and have a strong Javascript background, I hope to apply to Google but I'm not sure if I have all the right knowledge to apply.
