Ask HN: Record keeping hacks?

Its that special time of year again, and after having fired my bookkeeper a year ago I'm hitting a good old session of digging through the mountains of receipts I've lazily tucked away in prep for tax season..

After having watched this: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1199914 and seeing him scan docs straight into Evernote, I'm wondering - are there new hacks to proper record keeping? What tools are out there for lazy / distracted business owners to enforce good records without a bookkeeper?
