'Failing Light' (with Harold Budd) may be just about the most relaxing music ever. Everything's just growing and existing, perhaps underwater, with nothing ever happening.
So if you know about Brian Eno, he's one of the original pioneers in the minimalist "Space" music genre. His Apollo album in the 80's brought synthesizers to post-rock.
<3 Eno, but there are a lot of people making computer music and working with digital synthesis at a granular level (pun intended). This just seems like name-dropping.
"Apollo: Atmosphere & Soundtracks" is an incredible album and was written for a documentary (no words) of the Apollo landing. I've always wanted to see the original but it is NOWHERE.
Here's a Youtube of somebody on the water just so you get a feeling of the music of the ether.
