For those that haven't seen, the game was released a week ago and has seen extraordinary adoption, with some controversy.

Specifically:

- It's been the fastest mobile game to top the iOS and Android app stores [0]

- On Android, it has comparable daily active users as Twitter and more device installs than Tinder [1]

- Players are spending more time in the app than WhatsApp, Instagram, and even Silicon Valley poster child Snapchat [1]

No, apparently it isn't compatible with my moto e.

Unfortunately manufacturers don't make powerful phones in the form factor I like.

I'm using it on a moto e (2nd gen) and it's working perfectly, you just don't have the AR stuff since there's no gyrometer. Maybe sideload the apk ?

IMO you don't miss out on too much by not having the AR.

I think it's the memory. The phone only has 1GB and the app requires 2GB.

No. It does not appeal to me at all. I think I would have thought that it was the bee's knees when I was a young teenager, though.

I've played a bit, but most of the times I have tried the servers have been too busy. Anyhow, I played Pokemon Red and Blue and those games had way more depth.

Yes and no. Yes, I signed up for it. No, because their servers have shit the bed.

Probably won't continue playing.

No but I'm fascinated by the potential of copycat apps which may focus on a niche I'm more interested in.

Today I got a text from my mother "I'm catching pokemon! Did you try the new app?" Which really surprised me.

Yes, just a bit. However, unless they add more to the app, it's already getting quite repetitive and it's still too simple overall.

I'm starting to believe this could be a fad that will fade away within weeks, but I could be wrong.

I'd be curious to see in 30-90 days if there's a drop-off in # of active users.
