FlightCar (YC W13) shutting down operations

Dear Matt,

Thank you for being a loyal customer and supporter of FlightCar. Like you, we believe that people around the world can be more self-reliant by sharing their resources to improve society.

I’m writing to let you know that today, FlightCar is closing down the operations of all twelve of its stations. We recognize that this will have an impact on you as our customer, and we hope to make the transition as smooth as possible. We will not be accepting new reservations as of today.

Also today, the technology platform of FlightCar has been acquired by Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc (MBRDNA). Our technology will now be a part of the Business Innovation division at MBRDNA, the innovation lab for new mobility services. We are excited to be part of Mercedes-Benz’s future shared mobility projects.

If you have a reservation for a future rental, you will be refunded in full. You will need to make new arrangements, and we are sorry that this will be an inconvenience for your upcoming trip. If you are currently renting a FlightCar, we will reach out to you in a separate email.

All future listings already booked will be cancelled. If your car is currently listed with FlightCar, we will reach out to you in a separate email to schedule its return.

No personal data will be transferred as part of this transaction.

We truly appreciate the community that came together to share and rent each others’ unique cars. Thank you for being a great customer and part of our journey, and we look forward to a new future.
