The user probably posted with either a public SOCKS proxy or TOR, so it would most likely be a pointless endeavor.
Atlantic Records wants to subpoena Reddit for "all and any other Reddit accounts which accessed [Reddit’s] service from the same IP address on or about June 15, 2016." That's an unreasonably broad scope and an infringement of privacy waiting to happen. If the user went through a public proxy or coffee shop, that could mean handing over hundreds of accounts' worth of personally identifiable information.

I'm not surprised at Reddit's response at all.
