Smug white conservatives talk about the sanctity of family, while cheating on their second wife, or speak out against homosexuality while having sex with strangers in an airport bathroom, or blame the drug culture on poor people while hopped up on illegal pain killers.
Many liberals have complained about other liberals talking the talk but not walking the walk. The Guardian seems to make a living from publishing those articles. In 1966, Phil Ochs wrote "Love Me, I'm a Liberal". His introduction was:
> In every political community there are varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the liberals. An outspoken group on many subjects. Ten degrees to the left of center in good times. Ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally.
Quoting from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Me,_I%27m_a_Liberal quoting Michael Schumacher, the song "would evoke "a strange mixture of laughter, from nervous tittering from those who recognized themselves in Phil's indictment, to open roars of approval from the radical factions in the audience."
