Thinkpads are usually well recommended by the HN crowd, and great for people focusing on linux compatibility. But they are kinda pricey...

Did some simulation with the coupon 1625$ for T460s, WQHD,20Gig Ram,512 pcie-nvm,3 Years warranty... not bad

I'm still using a Thinkpad T430. Part of me is remiss of supporting Lenovo with superfish and the gimping of Motorla. Besides that point I still enjoy my laptop. The only reason I want to upgrade is a better laptop screen. I got it used in 2013 for 430 base i5 model, upgraded for a total of 900 to 16GB ram, 3 SSDs, dock and cables. It's still fast enough. The build quality is good too, it took a number of drops before I had any reprocussions.

Earlier this year I dropped it and the motherboard finally died. I ordered replacement parts and a faster processor off ebay for 60. From what I've seen the newer models offer similar repairability on the non S[slim] models. Despite all the issues with the parent company. The base laptop is still my go to at this point.
