I have an answer for the author. "How is this happening?" The left failed to have a backbone, failed to be as politically brutal as their opponents, their opponents who were being effective at getting their stated agenda in place. So Millennials learned by copying the party that appears to be making progress on their agenda (however insane).

Millennials have seen a weak and ineffective left loose political fight after political fight and they are fed up with it. The left taught them (by being the victim) that bullying your political opponents works, and they took it to heart.
