I did something similar: I created a fake phishing site and stole the email accounts of a multi-level Nigerian scammer group.
I changed all the passwords and emailed everyone that was in contact with the scammers. I don't think it helped though. Most were older and lonely divorced/widower men that just wanted someone to talk to and didn't believe me.
I found thousands of copied identifications (Passports/licences), full detailed credit card numbers, and plane tickets out of Nigeria (which I promptly cancelled).
I was pretty happy with myself. I probably ruined many months of phishing work in about 10 email accounts and prevented someone from flying out on ill gotten gains.
I even remember an interesting scam the group tried to pull. They would start group messaging each other and include someone they wanted to phish. It was usually about some sort of party they were planning together (which was all fake). The end would be convincing the other people to send them money to pay for beer, tickets, food, etc. It actually worked once-in-awhile.
If I had more free time (I was unemployed at the time), I would continue to do it. It was fun times.
