I agree it's probably complete nonsense though. But weirder things have happened. Apple bought Topsy, a Twitter analytics company, and shut that down, presumably for the data.
On mobile, if I click the link for reading the rest of the article I get a full screen and impossible to close popup asking me to download their app. Sigh.

People are pumping up these rumors to unload the stock. There is absolutely no reason for Google to buy Twitter. None.
