Ask HN: Bridge whatsapp to e-mail or IRC?

I've been able to keep Whatsapp out of my life for a long time, but I now find I'm no able to keep up socially staying 'offline' - Playing in a band with non-geeks who think e-mail is cumbersome and don't want to switch to Signal because of their existing network.

I've installed whatsapp on an old phone which stays in a drawer all day, and check messages using the Whatsapp web interface every now and then. Works just fine for me, although I'd like to be notified when a new message arrived, preferably using mail or IRC. Are there any solutions for this?

How do others handle Whatsapp in their digital lives?
