Ask HN: Resources for Learning about IoT?

Does anyone have good resources (tutorials, articles, courses, blogs, documentation, github projects) or personal knowledge about IoT best practices, frameworks, or introductory information? Google didn't get me very far and I'm sure many HN readers and contributors know of some good places to start.

I want to keep messing around with this stuff in my home lab, but understand the current state and best practices of IoT devices and communication before I go any farther with my current makeshift mess of a home automation system.
