Tell HN: An idea to fix patents

Pieter Hintjen's passing made me really sad and made me reflect on patents. I'm a professional scientist and a tiny part of my job is to file patents. I find this part to not be that great. If people from FSF or some other organized community see this post .. I have an idea.

What if we had an organization called OpenInnovationForAll or something .. as a scientist, I'd be happy to take a 5% pay cut if my patents would be assigned to this org. That's my employment agreement. Part of this is that a company that is in the org won't sue other members of the org over patents. There are no dues for this org except scientists who sign up for this voluntarily take a x% pay cut. This would let the org gather a hefty number of patents that are protected. A founding philosophy is that the org should not use patents as a weapon against others. In honour of Pieter .. by Eric Cartman :)
