Ask HN: How to learn to use software design pattern?

I am software dev. at leading tech company but I am struggling with using design patterns. I know the sources for learning design patterns but just knowing them does not mean that I use them. Besides, if I don't use them, I forget them.

Practice might be a good way of using learning to use design patterns but a big enough design project where I can try patterns are not very frequent.

One way I can think of is that whenever I get a big project, I should brush up all design patterns and then try to come up with design.

Is there any better way of learning to use design patterns?
