Ask HN: Would you join a tech worker strike if Trump acts intolerably in office?

Tech people, if President-elect Trump acts in a way that actively harms the well-being of our fellow humans (American or foreigners alike) or if he tramples human rights and liberties in a way that is not tolerable, would you support an industry-wide strike? If we stopped responding to pages, emails, and generally stopped maintaining internet infrastructure, I can't imagine that impact would go unnoticed.

While the fine folks at YC like to advocate for business-compatible solutions for change (see the not-at-all unique or useful voteplz.com for one example), it's clear that our democratic future will not be determined by better software or more convincing blog posts.

I'm not sure what exactly would have to happen to trigger such a protest, but if the impetus is clear, would you participate? We're one of the only groups who get paid well enough to save up our income beforehand, and it's non-trivial to replace us with other workers.

Yeah. In place for those who can't afford to strike, yeah.
I'd go on strike right now just based on the principal that he is totally unacceptable. I would love to see everyone from the blue states go on strike unless he steps down. We have wall street. We have silicon valley. We have the cultural and intellectual capitals. We have the major ports. The red states have dairy and corn. Fuck them. We can live without them. They can't live without us.
This is the type of divisiveness that made me fearful of Trump. To me, one of the greatest parts of the American democracy is the concept of a peaceful revolution[1]. It is clear that there was a large group of people who wanted to change the status quo, and Donald Trump embodied that change.

Back to your main point though, if push came to shove, and I had to choose between software or financial products and dairy and corn I'd pick dairy and corn every time. You can't eat CRUD.

Take a deep breath, give your loved ones a call, and lets watch this unfold.
