Ask HN: How to help people that are being harassed by Trump's supporters?

1 points by mrcabada ↗ HN
I'm sick and tired of reading stories/posts/tweets about people being harassed by their skin-color, religion, sexual orientation, nationality and looks. It angers me. And it's just the beginning.

I'd love to help these people in any way with tech/coding.

Is anyone here working in something related to this? or any ideas how could a website/code/bot would help address this situation?

(I'm mexican and live in Mexico. I know software isn't the solution for everything but that's how I can help from here.)

Some problems don't have easy technical solutions. :/
How would a website or bot help with this? I really can't imagine any way that would legitimately impact the life of people being harassed. Software is not the answer to everything, and if we've learned anything lately, it should be that our internet bubble is not representative of the real world.

Your time would be better spent advocating for laws that help protect people (such as laws to improve reporting on police shootings or extending laws that ensure protections of employment and housing for marginalized groups) , and of course actually speaking up if you witness harassment in person. You could run for local office even. Almost any action will be better than trying to go at this from the software angle.

Totally agree.

Ah, that makes sense, sorry for being so harsh then. Still, I don't think much can be done from the software perspective. You could organize local protests in supporting the groups being marginalized here. I mean, it's not uncommon to see americans protest for palestinians or something, so I don't think it could hurt or would be too weird (unless you have a reason to fear that wouldn't be safe, which I would understand).
