Ask HN: What are the good resources to learn about compiler optimizations?

Most of the online courses I can find (Example: Stanford course) concentrate more on frontend/ parsers or machine-dependent optimizations like Register Allocation, Scheduling etc. What are some of the good resources for Machine independent optimizations like SSA, Inlining, GVN etc. Online courses would be great.

Just jumping into LLVM is probably a good idea. It's well structured and uses SSA. Pretty well documented and the LLVM Developers' Meetings have plenty of talks and tutorials.

Spend some time learning IR and the basic compiler pipeline.
