Do Americans Know: Trump = Fart?
Not sure I can justify an IT/Hacker/Science angle here, but let's tenuously file under "linguistics" and hope for the best:
Following the recent US election result, I'm idly curious as to whether any of HN's American readers knew that "trump" is slang for "fart" throughout most of the north of England.
[Can also be used as a verb, as in "Who Trumped?"]
As you can imagine, this unfortunate coincidence has caused much mirth this side of 'the pond', but I've not seen any of Trump's opponents in the US make use of such 'linguistic ammo' on any of their posters or banners. So I suspect the double-entendre might be unknown outside of the north of England.
If so, I'm pleased to contribute to the sum total of human knowledge by broadening the vocabulary of HN's global readership!
