Ask HN: What is a good alternative to Facebook News Feed?

I give my Facebook feed sporadic attention at best, but some of my friends have been asking me "so if I wanna get off of Facebook news, what's a good alternative?"

Besides HN, I curate a lot of my news through RSS subscriptions, but that's not a mainstream way to consume news and isn't always very user friendly either.

As far as curated news aggregators go, I'm not very knowledgeable. The only one I can tentatively recommend is Blendle -- if for no other reason than the fact that they're trying to popularise a brand new business model for journalism, and that's an experiment I'll happily invest some $$ in.

But what else is out there as far as good replacements for Facebook news go?
