Ask HN: How big/small is NPM compared to the biggest in the industry?

Just was reading some projects and it amaze me the countless of man-hours in effort and all the value the ecosystem was able to generate in such short life span.

I wonder if it's possible to compare the npm ecosystem to others, especially the mammoths in the industry, in terms of value added, not just LOC --although that may be a good start.

As always measuring value is highly subjective, so I'm not really sure this is even possible.
