A 240 year run wasn't so bad, but there's a lot of accumulated baggage that needs to be shed somehow before this system functions as intended.

Cutting loose some of the more disruptive states might help. Telling North Carolina they're cut off from federal funding would get them back in line pretty quick, though as it stands there's no way that's going to happen.

Instead you're likely to see strong states like California and New York ignore the federal government and just do their own thing.

Krugman and all the rest of the neoliberals and neocons seem to be preaching the end of the world.

The republic isnt ending, civil war isnt breaking out, no matter how hard some hysterical people are pushing it.

Also erosion of rights occurred heavily under bush BUT continued with obama. The whole two party system failed there.
