Ask HN: Can we use AI to contain AI?

Dumb question from someone who doesn't know what they are talking about: From my understanding there is the problem of if AI gets so intelligent we won't be able to contain it. So prior to that event could we use the predictive capacities of the AI to help generate different scenarios/ways in which it would be able to over take us and then find solutions? Obviously we wouldn't want this to be our only approach. Thoughts?
